Video format

This page describes the video file the kiosk welcome screen accepts. You can paste it into an AI chat such as ChatGPT or Claude and ask it to help you make your video meet it. For the whole picture, see Welcome screen: photos, videos and animations.

Soundallowed, but never played

A tablet set to reduce motion shows the video's still frame instead of playing it.

Sizes and shape are measured the way the clip plays: a phone's portrait clip stored with a rotation flag counts as portrait.

The kiosk plays the file as it is. Nothing is converted for you, so a file that breaks a rule is refused and the back office says which one. HEVC (H.265), the format some phones use by default, is refused because not every kiosk tablet can play it.

Exporting

iPhone. In Settings → Camera → Formats choose Most Compatible, which records H.264. Record the clip after that, trim it in Photos if you need to, and share it with Save as Video or send it to yourself as a file.

Android. Open the camera's settings and look for a video codec or "HEVC" or "High efficiency video" switch. Turn it off so the phone records H.264. If your phone has no such switch, convert the clip with an editor such as CapCut or with HandBrake.

CapCut. Choose Export, then set Codec to H.264, Resolution to 1080p and Frame rate to 30 fps.

HandBrake. Open your clip, choose the preset Fast 1080p30, set Format to MP4 and Video Encoder to H.264 (x264). Lower the Constant Quality slider (a higher RF number) until the file is under 20 MB. Remove the audio track, as it is never played.

Make it loop without a jump

The kiosk plays the clip again and again. To hide the join:

  • Make the last frame match the first frame.
  • Prefer a slow camera move or a gentle movement in the scene.
  • Avoid cuts, fades and text changes right at the end.

Ask an AI

Paste this page into ChatGPT or Claude and add "help me make my video meet this". Tell it your phone or editor and the shape of your kiosk screen.
